Welcome to our Developer Stories about Building Jolicloud

November 17th, 2009 at 10:47 pm, by Tariq Krim

For our users, Jolicloud is a cool OS for their netbooks. For our developers, it’s about technical challenges, moving barriers and disrupting the status quo. On the whole Jolicloud is an interesting beast because it is bringing together two worlds that usually don’t talk together: the world of open source OS and the world of open web developers.

We believed that it would be a good idea to have our team share the stories behind the building of Jolicloud, this is how building.jolicloud.com was born.

We hope you will enjoy our posts and that you will share your thoughts with us. We are very dedicated to our work but every day we learn more, so don’t hesitate to suggest ideas and send us feedback.

Have fun reading!

Just got my invite and loaded up Jolicloud on my HP Mini 1151NR (Verizon). I really like what you have done. Everything ‘normal’ seems to work “out of the box”. This model has a built in EVDO radio for Verizon Wireless Broadband. I was able to connect to the service on Ubuntu 9.10 UNR by installing the gobi_loader (driver for Qualcomm Gobi Chipset) It looks like you have done the hard work by compiling the kernel with qcserial & hp-wmi modules, is there anyway to add the driver? I followed the forum thread at:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1008200

although it works great tied to a wireless or wired network, the ultimate would be jolliclouding anywhere!

Thanks,
james

I just tried prefinal Jolicloud, and I’m so impressed!! My netbook is Aspire One 751H, and its resolution is fantastic!!

One thing could be improved: using Apps center to download and install software takes too much time! Is there another way?

Anyway, thanks for all the hard and excellent work!
